Even on this better looking foecast there is rain albeit next week. I am told this is a bit unusual and it does seem to have been a long winter.....

To change the subject, I am looking at a BBC TV show which looks at how people keep their pets. I find it difficult to understand why anybody wishes to keep a pack of dogs in a filthy backyard. Do these people start with an intention to build their pack and it gets too big for them? Do they not realise the responsibilities mthat go with maintaining their dogs or do they like the power of dominance over their animals? Whatever their reasons might be surely one part of the programme would be better at looking at the reasons why the phenomenon occurs. I think the public might, by now, have regaled sufficiently in the details of filth and depravity these films have shown.Surely it is time to look at the reasons behind the pictures?

Man United have followed Arsenal and Chelsea into the ranks of the fallen and it became clear to some that Rooney should never have played. I said to Anne, "It's too early", the second Rooney's return was announced. Psychologically, it might have boosted the team but injuries need time to recover. To be the subect of such media attention and seen barely able to walk a mere couple of days previously illustrates for me the importancer of the Champions League at the expense of anything for me. I'm sure others will disagree and see it quite reasonable that a player unable to walk two days previously should undergo miraculous recovery because he is at Manchester United's facilities. Most rational people will realise rest and recuperation go hand in hand not rest and top level competition.

Liverpool are playing tonight..........Tiger Woods returns to golf today...........

The rebel doctor has some very strong views on many things and he writes here about ......

Lining up for unnecessary heart Tests

I've warned you about the endless list of unnecessary tests... now let's get specific, because every year hundreds of thousands of Americans are getting risky screenings they never needed.

Doctors routinely order angiograms -- more than 1 million of them last year alone -- and in many cases, these radioactive tests reveal absolutely nothing.

Researchers say up to 30 percent of all angiogram patients have no real symptoms
-- their doc just wants to check up on them, and the patient just plays along.

When it's your heart, you don't ask questions, right?

Wrong! Ask away -- because the study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that 62 percent of the time, these exams find nothing more than the patient's wallet.

Of course, doctors say they're shocked -- shocked! -- to see how ineffective these tests are for so many patients.

Sure they are. And Captain Renault was shocked -- shocked! -- to find gambling at Rick's Café.

Angiograms, if you didn't know, are no small potatoes. The procedure involves sending a tube through the arteries to the heart to check for blockages. The tube shoots dye as technicians click away at an X-ray machine -- exposing you to radiation throughout the test.

And no matter what your doc tells you, there is NO safe amount of radiation.

Patients undergoing these tests also have a risk of suffering a stroke or heart attack during the procedure. Your doctor will tell you the risk is small... but so what? It's still a risk, and you should never, ever put your life on the line if you don't have to.

We're being tested left and right, up and down and at every corner -- and most of these tests come loaded with danger, inconvenience and cost.

But if we cut back on them, there's only one risk: Fewer labs and clinics looking to make a quick buck off your health fears.

Finally! A risk even I can live with.

Skipping the scans and screenings,

William Campbell Douglass II, M.D.

Sheenagh has been researching The Importance of walking

Walking can add minutes to your life. This enables you at 85 years old to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing
home at £2,000 per month.

My grandpa started walking five miles a day when he was 60.Now he's 97 years old and we have no idea where he is.

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

The only reason I would take up walking is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.

I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I'm doing..

I joined a health club last year, spent about 250 quid.Haven't lost a pound.Apparently you have to go there!.

Every time I hear the dirty word 'exercise',I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

I do have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers them.

The advantage of exercising every day is so when you die, they'll say,'Well, He looks good doesn't he.'

If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country.

I know I got a lot of exercise the last few years,......just getting over the hill.

We all get heavier as we get older, because there's a lot more information in our heads. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

AND

Every time I start thinking too much about how I look,I just find a pub with a Happy Hour and by the time I leave,
I look just fine.
