It is the duty of every cultured man or woman to read sympathetically the scriptures of the world. If we are to respect others' religions as we would have them respect our own, a friendly study of the world's religions is a sacred duty. - Mohandas K. Today's Podcast is a great journey with the story of the day's music down the tunnel of time to light up your ears.....and there are some very interesting stories about the music of the day...Do you remember, for example, this day in 1977, The month after his death, Elvis Presley had 27 albums and 9 singles in the Top 100 charts in the UK. Remember you can listen to the day's story of the music whilst reading my blog by clicking this link.

I never thought I'd be quite as happy to see rain as I did yesterday. All those days I was traipsing round Cornwall with the wind and driving rain in my face cursing my luck I hated the continual rain. When we had visiting students from Spain they often said they enjoyed the rain and cold and we thought they were mad. However, we have had a long period of dry hot weather and I am quite enjoying the rain and cooler weather.

We went down to the market in Alfaz and whereas many are at the market to buy things I just love listening to all the different languages being spoken. In the language CDs and tapes there is always a loud voice speaking in Spanish and, quite rightly, the accent is on the Spanish. However, Alfaz is quoted as having the highest number of different nationalities gathered in one town and it is very easy to hear a dozen languages being spoken as you travel down the stalls. Obviously you would expect Spanish but you will also hear Valenciano spoken in this part of Spain. There are always many English speakers and the Dutch are always present. The Russians, Bulgarians and Rumanians are present in numbers and there are usually a few different African languages being spoken. There certainly seems to be less Germans about this year and we are told there are many who have repatriated due to changes in the tax laws. You'll rarely go anywhere in the world without hearing Chinese being spoken and you'll be up to a dozen languages before you realise you've passed Norwegians and other Scandinavians. Within Alfaz there is the largest gathering of Norwegians living outside of Norway. It is also very nice to wander around seeing friends in the market. Tom and Jenny were making the pilgrimage from La Olla and Graham from Camping Benidorm helped us catch up on the football. Mo who used to be a guest on my radio show was telling me her lad was playing in a punk band and they're playing with the Buzzcocks in Alicante tomorrow. Paul and Angie were buying their vegetables and catching up on the transfers in the Premiership!

I've been up nice and early to create a podcast with my good friend Don Woods and then our youngest son, John, is with us for the next few days followed by the visit of our American relatives. I see a very busy time ahead showing Denis and Mallory and Derick and Melanie around the Costa Blanca. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
