He was a singer, songwriter, (1967 UK No.2 single ‘Matthew And Son’, 1972 UK No.9 & US No.6 single, ‘Morning Has Broken’). Wrote ‘The First Cut Is The Deepest’ Covered by PP Arnold, Rod Stewart and Sheryl Crow. Converted to the Muslim religion in 1977 changing his name to Yusef Islam Saturday was beautiful...like the rest of the week. We had good news first thing as our friend had not had a bad night in hospital and was feeling good. My cold is still giving me problems but it is only an inconvenience so I made my 10 o'clock podcast with Don Woods from the Wirral Peninsula. Don asked, "What are we like in the UK?…We have had two weeks of a heatwave …NOW they are issuing health warnings…”people could DIE!! In this unbearable heat!!!”….employees are threatening to walk out of the workplace if the temperature gets to 30 degrees………a month ago we were all complaining about the COLD and worrying about DROWNING with the floods…..I’m waiting for the “Drought Alert” which will happen any time now.
I must say it certainly brings out some strange sights on the streets…not pretty ones. " CIMG7361
He told me that their fundraising organisation, The Cheshire Cats, gave £500 to a local kids charity and their “chairman” was invited by the charity to join them on an invite to Prince Charles’s house…This included a tour around the gardens and a two course meal….for which you had to pay 32 quid….this plus the train fare and suit hire obviously put him off…...It reminded Don of his friend Monty Lister being invited to the Queen’s garden party at the Palace…..it bucketed down so Liz and Phil vanished back indoors and left the 3000 guests to brave the blizzard in the Palace Grounds…before returning home on the train soaked to the skin…...... The UK Education System is being changed AGAIN by Michael Gove. …..11 year olds will now be graded from 1 – 6…and compared to other schoolkids around the country…Don told me the teachers are saying that it will lower the kids confidence and the government are saying it gives the parents a better insight… CIMG7317

Don went on to tell me there was a programme on the television about being ripped off on foreign holidays….Car hire was one subject whereby you think you have paid in advance for a car but when you go to pick it up there are all sorts of added extras… e.g  no refund on returned petrol…extra for damage insurance etc…one woman paid an extra 120 euros for a weeks car hire. Also it went on about cruises…whereby when you buy a drink there is service charge and VAT added…and if you travel as a single person you get well and truly ripped off….but that is the way of the world…and what can you do?.....Don recently bought some “Extra Long Life Batteries” from TESCOS..their own brand….These lasted a couple of weeks in his radio…As you expect Don will be notifying the customer services and telling them where to stick their batteries very soon.  Finally, Don  had the final rehearsal for the James Burton Show which is happening this weekend. This show is to celebrate 40 years since the “Aloha from Hawaii” which featured Elvis Presley….James backed Elvis on that show but he was also Ricky Nelson’s guitarist in the 50’s and early 60’s which is what Don will be doing. Don is singing 5 Ricky Nelson hits and Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Woman” with James Burton playing lead guitar for him. This sounds wonderful. .........................................

I liked watching the Tour de France in the mountains near Annecy yesterday as we'd visited the location about six weeks ago. They had been preparing the roads ready for the big race and my sister, Rita, had shown us where it would all take place. The tactics during the race are absolutely absorbing and it was fantastic to see Chris Froome preparing to adopt the mantle handed by Bradley Wiggins. Team Sky has certainly been well constructed. They've even managed to repeat last year's extraordinary achievements without Bradley and Mark Cavendish. The golf looked good with the course resplendent and great possibilities of a British winner. I say British as the English borrowed Andy Murray last week. I also must mention the Triathlon in Germany where the bionic Brownlee Brothers from Yorkshire took 1st and 2nd ahead of Spain's Gomez.  FC Barcelona on Friday announced that Tito Vilanova will step down with immediate effect in the wake of reports that the head coach has suffered a relapse of a cancer affecting his saliva gland.   At a press conference held by club president Sandro Rosell and sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta, which was also attended by the first team, Rosell confirmed that Vilanova would leave the club. “We are appearing before you to make an announcement that we could have never imagined making,” said Rosell. “After tests carried out on Tito Vilanova this week, he has reached the conclusion that it is necessary that he follows a course of treatment that will be impossible for him to combine with his work as the coach of FC Barcelona. “We ask for understanding at this time, it is a cruel blow. There is nothing else to say. We will present a new coach next week and in the meantime we have decided not to play our upcoming friendly match in Poland because there is no desire to do so.” Vilanova took over from former coach Pep Guardiola last summer after the latter resigned his post to take a year off from the game. Guardiola, who spent his sabbatical in New York, had anointed his assistant coach Vilanova as his successor before leaving Camp Nou. During the 2012-13 season, Vilanova traveled to New York last December for treatment on the parotid gland cancer that had been diagnosed in November 2011. The Barça coach spent the ensuing two months receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment in New York and returned to the Camp Nou dugout in late March. During his absence, assistant coach Jordi Roura oversaw first team affairs in season in which Barcelona regained the league title from Real Madrid by a nine-point margin. Source:SpanishVida

This is all part of a 26 million euro scheme to improve the capacity of the main coastal road serving one of the principal holiday and tourism destinations on the Costa Blanca. In August, the road carries double the number of vehicles that it does in January, with 42,000 vehicle movements every day on this stretch of road.
Meanwhile, it has also been revealed that six of the eight major road extensions in the region have been paralysed due to lack of money. A number of these projects were planned in 2008 with a completion date of 2012, prompting a number of officials to raise the questions as to what happened to the money budgeted for the projects.
Manuel Miñés, the director of Cámara de Contratistas de la Comunitat Valenciana, or CCCV, a private entity representing construction companies across the Valencia region, said, “There is no money for any new road or variant, such as those needed in Oliva, Gandia and Altea, which should be operational, but there is no money”. He also stated issues such as the N-340 between Peñíscola, Benicarló and Vinaròs, where this year the annuity is over. “This work should have been completed in December 2011, but is forecast to be prolonged until 2015, double the initial term”.
The same delays are apparent to the south of Elche, work awarded in 2010, which are again likely to be delayed until 2015 at least, as well as many other projects, some which include the N-332, although none of those plans taking the bottleneck of Torrevieja into consideration. In the widening of the N-332 plans of 2009, the section around Torrevieja was ignored, some saying for environmental reasons, despite 36,369 vehicles per day being registered then, increasing year after year, with no obvious solution being presented.
Meanwhile, the road network has caused problems for neighbouring Orihuela, partly due to the residents now having to fund a massive fine for the land that was taken due to the widening of the road through the municipality, whilst other politicians are calling for a new motorway to be built connecting the coast to the city, carving up the countryside and no doubt costing a lot more money than would seemingly be available. 10. Cranberries
Cranberries work by keeping harmful bacteria from sticking to the lining of the urinary tract.
