“You see things; and you say, ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were; and I say, ‘Why not?’”

-Today's Podcast is a great journey with the story of the day's music down the tunnel of time to light up your ears.....and there are some very interesting stories about the music of the day...1954, Johnny Cash married Vivian Liberto at St Ann’s Catholic Church in Memphis. Cash had plans of becoming a Memphis appliance salesman, he instead formed a band with Luther Perkins and Marshall Grant, and was signed to Sun Records a year later..

There is a world financial crisis and in the UK all the political leaders are on holiday. Everyone is entitled to a holiday but these are very exceptional times. Young guys don't see the big picture in general sense and I feel older politicians would have made appropriate allowances.

Does anyone else see shades of 1982 ish when we had financial austerity and riots in the likes of Tottenham. You see it is quite comfortable to have hard times = bad behaviour for some people and for years on end people have been coming out of schools where teachers have been impotent when it comes to punishment. I have a simple analogy. If you have a puppy and allow it to bite you without serious punishment then the puppy is still growing and will bite you even harder in the future. There are young puppies everywhere and it isn't just biting! Tough on the causes of crime? Tough on crime? Do us a favour.

Norway has had a couple of really tragic weeks and it is always surprising when a smaller cou8ntry seems to have a number of tragic situations coming at the same time. I hope they soon get back on track as the Norwegians I have met have always seemed to be very nice.

Almost back to a sporting normality as the Championship season kicked off. I thought I detected some Premiership arrogance as Birmingham imported some of last season's stature to the lower league. Derby, however, helped their feet stay on the ground with 3 goals of their own. You won't just walk back Birmingham. You'll have to earn the right to return.

Liverpool looked reasonable against Valencia and no more and Barcelona made a meal of their game last night. England looked strong against Wales in the Rugby union World Cup warm-up against Wales. However, Wales showed they have closed the gap between the two nations if this game has any significance. Part two is next week.

It's a gorgeous day here and it's already roasting. Neil will be round for Europe calling shortly.

La Tomatina

Amongst the many crazy festivals that take place all over Spain the tomato fight in Bunyol near Valencia is one that has caught the attention of travellers. At the end of August every year thousands of people swarm into this little Valencian town intent on taking part in the world's biggest tomato fight. The action begins at 11am as the first lorry load of overly ripe tomatoes are unloaded onto the street then for two hours everyone throws them at each other.

7th August
