Iris´s Challenge-answer at the foot of the blog


(1) Are a British pop group, formed in 1976 in Weston-super-Mare, by singer Phil Fursdon and Clive Wilson The group was formerly known as Alive 'n' Rockin

(2) They began their career by playing in pubs and clubs and by the autumn of 1976 they had performed their first professional shows and were booked to play a one-month residency at the night club in Copenhagen

(3) After returning to the UK they were spotted by famous record producer MICKIE MOST whilst playing a t the Three Queens Pub in Weston-Super-Mare Despite the fact that 1977 was the height of the punk rock boom and clean-cut bands were considered unfashionable, Mickie Most was impressed by the bands live performance and original songs and signed them to his RAK label.

(4) They then changed their name in 1977 to the name they became well know and had their first single in the summer of 1978, with "Baby it’s You”, which was penned by Smokie members Chris Norman and Pete Spencer.

(5) Their second single, "Lay Your Love on Me", was the group's first hit single, peaking at No.3 in late 1978/early 1979. The third single, "Some Girls", was written for Debbie Harry and Blondie, for whom Mike Chapman also produced, but was instead given to the group

(6) The record “Some Girls” became their biggest hit reaching No. 1 in 12 countries, eventually selling over 5 Million copies worldwide. They earned 35 Gold, Silver and Platinum sales awards from around the world for their hits

A loggerhead sea turtle has crossed the Atlantic in five months, a Spanish nature foundation said Wednesday.

The turtle, named Aurora, was captured in the Canary Islands and a signal transmitter was placed on its 53-centimetre-long shell in July 2009.

The turtle later embarked on an Atlantic crossing during which its movements were followed over a satellite.

Aurora has now arrived in the eastern part of the Caribbean, after having travelled more than 6,000 kilometres, according to the Environmental Observatory of Granadilla on Tenerife Island. Full Story
